MASS DEFECTION HITS APC AS HUNDREDS JOIN PDP IN ORHIONMWON LGA

In a remarkable political development, hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ugu Ward of Orhionmwon Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday.

The defectors, led by two former leaders of the Orhionmwon legislative arm, Hon. Godwin Osalaye and Hon. Peter Abusonmwan, were received by the Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, Hon. Newman Ugiagbe, and other top Orhionmwon PDP leaders.

Also, a former APC aspirant for the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Comrade Romeo Efehi and a staunch APC stalwart, Mr. Charles Aghavbare, and their numerous followers defected to the PDP.

The defectors cited various reasons for dumping their former party, including the lack of internal democracy, marginalization, and the failure of the APC to deliver on its campaign promises.

Hon. Godwin Osalaye, one of the leaders of the defectors, said they were dissatisfied with the APC's leadership style, which he described as "dictatorial and undemocratic."

"We are not allowed to participate in the decision-making process, and our views were never considered," he said. "We believe that the PDP is a more inclusive and democratic party, and we are excited to join the party."

Comrade Romeo Efehi, the former APC EDHA aspirant, said he defected to the PDP because of the party's commitment to the welfare of the people.

"I left the APC because it failed to present a credible governorship candidate who can sustain the all-round tremendous reforms of the outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki," Comrade Romeo said. "The PDP, on the other hand, has a proven track record of good governance and development, and I believe that it's candidate Dr. Asue Ighodalo and running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie are the best materials to pilot the affairs of the state to El dorado."

Receiving the defectors, Hon. Newman Ugiagbe, the Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, welcomed them to the PDP and assured them of equal opportunities and participation in the party's activities.

"We are glad to receive you into our party, and we assure you that you will be treated with dignity and respect," he said. "We will work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Orhionmwon LGA."

Other top PDP leaders who received the defectors included Barr. Chris Agbonmwanegbe, Hon. Bright Iyamu, Lady Uwa Osunbor, Barr. Osahon Ahunwan, Barr. Pedro Egharevba, Amb. Wesley Asoro and other party Leaders.

The mass exodus is seen as a considerable blow to the APC in Orhionmwon LGA, and a boost to the PDP's chances as the Edo State gubernatorial election approaches.
