Godfatherism: Governor Godwin Obaseki The Game Changer
*By Ogiemwonyi Osazuwa*
Apart from various definitions of godfatherism, it has meaningful interpretations, which are synonymous with its name. Although silent, positive godfatherism is the normative shopping for service oriented candidates in the interest of the people.
In fact, Nigeria polity had a taste of positive godfatherism in the First and Second Republic. During those periods, positive godfatherism from the three main regions of the country fielded their godsons for the purposes of economic security and the social development of their regions. Those political godfathers presented for elections, notable public figures like the Chief Bola Ige, Pa Lateef Jakande, Prof Ambrose Alli, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Chief Jim Nwobodo.
The common objectives of those godfathers were to present the best and marketable candidates who understood and believed in their parties' ideologies and who was also capable of executing programmes that would improve the people's welfare and provide selfless leadership. This is liken to Governor Godwin Obaseki's perception of godfatherism and the emergence of Asue Ighodolo as the PDP Candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship poll slated for September 21, 2024.
No doubt, Edo people need Asue Ighodolo, "Jack of all trade and master of all," at this crucial time, when Nigeria is experiencing economic downturn occasioned by APC mis-governance. True, Dr. Asue Ighodolo is the best candidate to hire/vote for to succeed the Performing Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Asue Ighodolo is the right man who can turn the economic fortune of Edo people to serve them effectively and efficiently.
#Adams Oshiomhole's candidate, the APC flagbearer Monday Akpakomiza is not an option at all!
It is in pedestrian knowledge that Asue Ighodolo is more competent than the rest of the Edo governorship candidates. Asue Ighodolo merits to be the next Governor of Edo State in all ramifications.
Asue Ighodolo would be in a hurry to implement all the basic ideologies of his great party-PDP in executing people oriented programmes or projects that would improve Edo people's welfare. These would be visible in the transformation of the healthcare system, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and security in the state.
