Edo '24 and the Quest for Asue/Ogie
As the Edo gubernatorial election approaches, it is crucial for the Edo PDP leadership to contemplate selecting Barr. Osarodion Ogie as the running mate alongside the flag bearer, Asue Ighodalo. The rationale is clear: Barr. Ogie holds significant influence in Edo state's political arena, having demonstrated his commitment and loyalty to the party hierarchy over time.
Barr. Ogie has impeccable qualities. He possesses exceptional traits or virtues without any faults or shortcomings. He is altruistic, self-effacing, and a unifier. He is a leader who prioritises and promotes his followers to positions of authority. Barr. Osarodion Ogie is, indeed, a breed apart. There is no controversy.
He has proven to be a skilled administrator, making significant contributions to the achievements of Adams Oshiomhole's administration. Presently, he serves as a dependable ally in Godwin Obaseki’s government. His track record in politics is remarkable, characterized by his composed demeanour and steadfast loyalty to his superiors, which has earned him widespread admiration.
Politics is a game of numbers. His strong political network in Edo South and humongous followers spanning other senatorial districts are a huge advantage to secure victory for the party.
Edo politics, no doubt, demands resilience and insight into governance complexities. Winning elections is challenging, so it is crucial to consider experienced Barr. Ogie, a seasoned political heavyweight, to ensure victory. Together with Ighodalo, they have the potential to lead Edo State to El Dorado.
Now is not the moment to prioritize outdated loyalties in selecting a running mate merely to appease certain individuals or factions. Instead, the focus should be on choosing a running mate that will add value and who will enhance the chances of winning the election, thereby ensuring the continuation of the progress achieved under Obaseki’s administration.
While I do not claim to possess prophetic abilities, flouting my modest suggestion to select an alternative running mate other than Barr. Osarodion Ogie could lead to disastrous consequences for the PDP.
