Security is the collective responsibility of everyone; Orhionmwon council Boss tells Security and Traditional heads

Orhionmwon council chairman, Honourable Newman Ugiagbe has charged the heads of security agencies and traditional leaders to take the issue of securing the lives and properties of Orhionmwon residents as top priority. Chairman made the declarations yesterday during an interactive strategic meeting held with the Enigies and top security agents at the council's administrative headquarters, Abudu.


While seeking for a collaborative efforts between the security agencies, traditional heads and the council in curbing insecurity around the locality, Honourable Ugiagbe said that all hands must be on desk to ensure all forms of social vices especially kidnappings and herdsmen heinous activities are reduced to a barest minimum if not totally eradicated.


Hon. Ugiagbe said, "the core purpose of today's meeting is to put heads together in chanting the way forward in finding permanent solutions to the reoccurring cases of herdsmen evil activities, the ugly act of kidnapping and other vices giving our people sleepless nights. It's the government's primary responsibility to ensure the security of lives and properties of everyone but not without us working together as an entity in achieving this, all of us must be in the same page in this regard; our traditional fathers, heads of all the security agencies including the vigilantes".


Speaking further, the council Boss admonished the traditional heads to ensure they corporate and promptly report any act that might possibly cause the breach of public peace to the appropriate authority to avoid escalation, saying proper documentations of people living in their various communities especially non-indigenes  should be kept with a close monitoring of their activities. Reassuring the security forces that the council will ensure logistics are put in place for easy running of their works.


While highlighting some of the challenges faced in carrying out their official duties, the representatives of the security agencies solicited for the council's supports and promised the people of Orhionmwon that they'll continue to put in their best in ensuring safety of lives and properties. Speaking on behalf of the Enigies, the chairman of Orhionmwon traditional leaders, HRH. Edugie Ogieriakhi, the Enogie of Ugo said Enigies will continue to collaborate with the appropriate authority in bringing lasting peace to their various communities.


Meanwhile, the wife of Orhionmwon local government council Chairman,  Mrs. Tina Ugiagbe yesterday flagged off Oral Polio Vaccine immunisation exercise. The event which took place at the Abudu health care center have in attendance Dr. Igbinosun Osamuyi, the primary health coordinator in Orhionmwon, the Orhionmwon local government immunisation officer, Mrs. Osemwengie Usunobun and other senior health officials.  Others includes the former Commissioner in the Board of Edo State Oil and Gas Barr. Charles Aideyan, estwhile SSA to Governor Obaseki Comrade Jonathan Okunbor, the Acting Odionmwere of Abudu, religious and traditional leaders.


Stressing on the need for parents and wards to make their kids under the age of 5 available for the exercise, Mrs Ugiagbe said the important of the immunisation can not be overemphasized, saying the polio virus may cause permanent paralysis and is easily preventable by getting vaccinated while individual's immune system becomes resistant against the infections. She appealed to religious and traditional leaders present to educate their people on the needs to corporate with the officials in their various domains.


Mrs. Ugiagbe said the necessary supports and arrangements have been put in place by the council to ensure the program's positive impact is felt across the local government. The officials will be going to houses, churches, mosques, marketplaces and schools to ensure no child is left unvaccinated. The exercise will last from September 16th to 19th and it's totally free.
